Rock for Learning Animal Rescue Initiative - featuring Emmylou Harris' Bonaparte's Retreat *** NEW! ***ANIMAL RESCUE INITIATIVE: Action To Save the Lives of Sheltered Pets
Help cultivate a better world through pet rescue, adoption, and responsible stewardship of all natural creation, including animals. Stewardship of all natural creation, i.e., the environment, people, and animals, is a responsibility of caring, not abusing. It is our obligation as human beings to care for our fellow creatures -- not only people but also companion animals, farm animals, and wild animals -- with mercy and compassion. Musician artists Emmylou Harris and Sarah McLachlan set great examples for animal rescue and stewardship; let's follow in their lead. Please join us with Emmylou Harris' Bonaparte's Retreat and other artists and animal rescue organizations in the initiative to raise awareness and share important information for animal rescue, adoption resources, guidelines for responsible stewardship, and links for spaying/neutering and pet care.[Learn more HERE.]

Adam MCA Yauch

.

Rock for Learning would like to honor condolences and respect to the Beastie Boys for the passing death of Adam "MCA" Yauch, who lost a 3-year battle with cancer. Beastie Boys MCA we love you! We thank the Beastie Boys for thier activism for Tibetan Freedom. God bless.

************************************

Press Release c/o Steve Martin NLM:

ADAM YAUCH 1964-2012 It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Yauch taught himself to play bass in high school, forming a band for his 17th birthday party that would later become known the world over as Beastie Boys. With fellow members Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Adrock” Horovitz, Beastie Boys would go on to sell over 40 million records, release four #1 albums–including the first hip hop album ever to top the Billboard 200, the band’s 1986 debut full length, Licensed To Ill–win three Grammys, and the MTV Video Vanguard Lifetime Achievement award. Last month Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Diamond and Horovitz reading an acceptance speech on behalf of Yauch, who was unable to attend. In addition to his hand in creating such historic Beastie Boys albums as Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty and more, Yauch was a founder of the Milarepa Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness and activism regarding the injustices perpetrated on native Tibetans by Chinese occupational government and military forces. In 1996, Milarepa produced the first Tibetan Freedom Concert in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, which was attended by 100,000 people, making it the biggest benefit concert on U.S. soil since 1985’s Live Aid. The Tibetan Freedom Concert series would continue to stage some of the most significant benefit shows in the world for nearly a decade following in New York City, Washington DC, Tokyo, Sydney, Amsterdam, Taipei and other cities. In the wake of September 11, 2001, Milarepa organized New Yorkers Against Violence, a benefit headlined by Beastie Boys at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, with net proceeds disbursed to the New York Women’s Foundation Disaster Relief Fund and the New York Association for New Americans (NYANA) September 11th Fund for New Americans–each chosen for their efforts on behalf of 9/11 victims least likely to receive help from other sources. Adam MCA Yauch Under the alias of Nathanial Hörnblowér, Yauch directed iconic Beastie Boys videos including ”So Whatcha Want,” ”Intergalactic,” “Body Movin” and “Ch-Check It Out.” Under his own name, Yauch directed last year’s Fight For Your Right Revisited, an extended video for “Make Some Noise” from Beastie Boys’ Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, starring Elijah Wood, Danny McBride and Seth Rogen as the 1986 Beastie Boys, making their way through a half hour of cameo-studded misadventures before squaring off against Jack Black, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as Beastie Boys of the future. Yauch’s passion and talent for filmmaking led to his founding of Oscilloscope Laboratories, which in 2008 released his directorial film debut, the basketball documentary Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot and has since become a major force in independent video distribution, amassing a catalogue of such acclaimed titles as Kelly Reichardt’s Wendy and Lucy, Oren Moverman’s The Messenger, Banksy’s Exit Through The Gift Shop, Lance Bangs and Spike Jonze’s Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait Of Maurice Sendak, and many more. Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen and his daughter Tenzin Losel, as well as his parents Frances and Noel Yauch.

[From www.TheWho.com:]
Roger Daltrey launches Daltrey/Townshend Teen and Young Adult Cancer Program at UCLA

Rock legends Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of the Who have always said they owe much of their musical success to teenagers. In a heartfelt repayment, Roger Daltrey announced the launch of the UCLA Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program, which will serve teens and young adult cancer patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Rock icon Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, who has been closely involved with the program in the U.K., also lend his support to the program at UCLA.

"We hope to bring the success of the Teenage Cancer Trust program in the U.K. to this inaugural program at UCLA," Plant said. "The caring and support the program provides have made a huge difference in the lives of many teens and young adults who are battling cancer."

The new program — the first of its kind in the United States — will build on the previous successful efforts of the Teenage Cancer Trust, which has helped fund 19 special teen cancer units in the United Kingdom.

TAKE ACTION FOR FREE HIGHER EDUCATION!

The future careers of our young adults and their right to higher education through colleges, universities, and specialized schools is currently being held ransom, a hostage held from its rightful students for the sake of money and profits, and the only way to release it for accessibility is by top dollar. What educational institutions are calling “tuition” is rather by its true name “Ransom” - and the cost demands are getting higher every semester. And who is responsible for this educational hostage crisis? The very educational system of institutions that survive by the participation of its own students.

The economic system has tapped into the vein (and the vain) of the education system and is driving students into bigger and bigger debts and student loans all for the hope of gaining a higher education degree that will lead to a better life with prosperity in a good career. Where it is true that education leads to rewarding careers and abilities, the education system entwined with the economics of our states and country has economically taken advantage and is abusing the very students and families that put money into education.

THERE IS A SOLUTION TO STOP THE ABUSE and give back the students’ right and access to higher education and the hope for a future career at practically NO COST TO THE STUDENTS.

I HAVE A VISION FOR FREE HIGHER EDUCATION, that students may achieve their Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees at practically no cost to them through a virtual online university funded and paid for entirely through advertisers, the same way as Facebook and Google are profiting billions of dollars through advertisers and use. This education system will be accessible online internationally to all people seeking to learn and earn a certificate or degree in any subject currently available in colleges, universities and specialized schools.

The parts of technology that are needed to make this free education system already exist and are actively in use. We the people just need to put the right parts together and activate it. There are already many active online universities, but they too are abusing the system and charging students higher “ransom” for education every year. We will put a stop to the abuse and ROCK THE SYSTEM, shake it up and shake out the corporate greed that has tapped the veins of our educational right.

We can build it! We can make it happen for the future of our country and of our world! And we can then make “Freedom of Education” a new U.S. Constitutional Amendment. For those of us who won’t take anymore abuse and would like to join our action to FREE HIGHER EDUCATION and rather enjoy the FREEDOM OF EDUCATION, please join us and link on and spread the news! www.Facebook.com/RockforLearning We will need an army of experts to build this, so please contact me at RockforLearning@yahoo.com if you are a professional who can help.

CYCLING & MARCHING FORTH TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT, 10-10-10

It was an active effort of unity as many causes rallied together with events and marches in cities from the east coast to the west on 10-10-10 to stop the pollution of oil and coal companies from destroying our environment. Greenpeace and 350.org called it "The Global Work Party to Save the Climate", but there were many campaigns by many names and many causes, including Rock for Learning, the Sierra Club, CalPirg Students, NRDC-funded PowerVote.com, Credo Action, and more in the Downtown LA 10-10-10 event organized by CicLAVia (bicycle action movement).

The event was brought to a crescendo by a surprise performance from Portland Oregon's, MARCH FOURTH MARCHING BAND helping to raise Environmental Bike Consciousness Click in for the complete news feature and learn more HERE.

Rock for Learning Rally for Support & Solutions
Proposed Solution #1: Take Action on Important Matters and ENLIGHTEN US!

In Kindergarten and elementary school life was simple and fun, we were given information, answers and solutions that we could comprehend and put to use and action. We called this LEARNING. We were also given toys, tools and resources by which to get creative and share, and we called this LEARNING and sometimes it was great fun. The process of learning is no different than it ever was, except now we have greater technology to make it easier to communicate and share and have all this great music to enjoy while doing it.

All our lives we gain information, answers, and resources so that we may learn by it and put solutions into action. Rock for Learning would like to inspire learning and creativity by providing and sharing support and solutions, including information, guidance, answers, and resources to enact better solutions to help ourselves, each other, our community, our causes, country, and planet.

What can we learn from each other to help ourselves, each other, our community, our causes, our country and planet?

Our government leaders and delegates need help to create viable solutions; let us help them and each other learn, share and create the information, answers and resources that will support better solutions.

Many people expect that the responsibilities for government matters and environmental preservation have been delegated to elected officials and professionals in designated corporations and agencies. Some people say "Let the Legislature handle it." or "That's not my job. It's someone else's job to handle/fix/resolve that matter." We have seen and experienced that the resolutions have not been sufficient and the state of the country continues to be in great deficit while world affairs are still being improved upon. The leaders, delegates and hired professionals need help and need to learn of the better potential solutions, answers, resources. They need the support from THE PEOPLE to obtain necessary information and resources to create, enact and implement better solutions. We exist in an ever changing and evolving world that requires continuous learning and improvement. And as we have learned since Kindergarten, sometimes learning just means being given the right information and resources that we can comprehend and put to use.

In the USA we are a government by the people for the people and we are the people. We the people who share Rock for Learning and the value of the US Constitutional Government and Democracy would like to take responsibility for action and involvement to help the process and the people who have been elected, delegated, hired, or otherwise to create solutions in a world with issues and the quest for continuous learning and improvement. Please share your ideas, and resources; support the causes that are important to us and write to your community and government leaders and please share your ideas for proposed solutions to our local and world matters.

LET US BE ACTIVE in helping the learning process and LET US GIVE support and solutions by sharing information, answers, guidance, and resources to help improve important matters in our communities and country.

LET US GIVE information, guidance, answers, solutions, and resources (financial and otherwise) that will help the continuous process of learning and implementing effective solutions for improvement and put the solutions into action and good use. Please offer resources, ideas, suggestions, and solutions: contact your selected organizations and government leaders and delegates, and let them know. Let's get it started in here!

INDIE SPOTLIGHT: The Makepeace Brothers bring an acoustic trio of harmonies getting their audiences to sing and dance along with heartfelt grooviness and enjoyment with influences that are clearly of South American rhythms and classic folk, seriously reminiscent of Paul Simon's Graceland. Lead vocalist/guitarist Finian Makepeace is an activist at heart having led an anti-war movement in San Francisco when U.S. troops got sent to Iraq; he encourages all "to be part of a bigger movement by making small changes like using glass bottles instead of plastic." Of most significance to Rock for Learning is their song "HERO" as they share in their lyrics:

"You are the kind of hero we need: Noble, Wise, Human, Kind."

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR

FEATURE ARTICLE:

"END ROULETTE: Spinning for Creative Freedom" END ROULETTE at a special KROQ event brought the energy of Green Day and Blink 182 with the expressive vocal angst of lead singer/guitarist Mary Jane Snow, whose style and sleekness reminds me of Berlin's Terri Nunn, together with the powerful drum beats, rhythms, and guitar leads of new drummer Sean, lead guitarist Chris, and bassist Rocko. Rocko rocks the house with his own style and striking blond mohawk, and also accredits that some of the excellent bass lines he plays were well written by End Roulette's original/former bassist, Joshua Wayne. Through creative freedom End Roulette has made their way to the music category of The Veronicas and Paramore with an intensity that did not disappoint.
