Julian Lennon, decade later, back in music biz with 'Lucy'
Julian Lennon, son of the legendary John Lennon, and James Scott Cook will donate a portion of the proceeds from their song, “LUCY,” to fund research on the disease lupus. The song was created to honor Cook’s 92-year-old grandmother, Lucy Cook, who has been living with lupus for years and Lucy Vodden, a childhood friend of Lennon’s who recently passed away at the age of 46 after a long battle with lupus. Vodden was also the subject of a drawing that Julian created which inspired his father to write the memorable Beatles hit song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Proceeds donated from the song, “LUCY,” will be shared equally by the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. (LFA), and the St. Thomas Lupus Trust in London.

INDIE SPOTLIGHT: The Makepeace Brothers bring an acoustic trio of harmonies getting their audiences to sing and dance along with heartfelt grooviness and enjoyment with influences that are clearly of South American rhythms and classic folk, seriously reminiscent of Paul Simon's Graceland. Lead vocalist/guitarist Finian Makepeace is an activist at heart having led an anti-war movement in San Francisco when U.S. troops got sent to Iraq; he encourages all "to be part of a bigger movement by making small changes like using glass bottles instead of plastic." Of most significance to Rock for Learning is their song "HERO" as they share in their lyrics:

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR
FROM ROCK FOR LEARNING
FEATURE ARTICLE:
END ROULETTE at a special KROQ event brought the energy of Green Day and Blink 182 with the expressive vocal angst of lead singer/guitarist Mary Jane Snow, whose style and sleekness reminds me of Berlin's Terri Nunn, together with the powerful drum beats, rhythms, and guitar leads of new drummer Sean, lead guitarist Chris, and bassist Rocko. Rocko rocks the house with his own style and striking blond mohawk, and also accredits that some of the excellent bass lines he plays were well written by End Roulette's original/former bassist, Joshua Wayne. Through creative freedom End Roulette has made their way to the music category of The Veronicas and Paramore with an intensity that did not disappoint.
