A MOMENT FOR A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
Excuse me, do you have a moment please?"I ask, just a moment to make a world of difference.
"Don't be mad at me." he thinks and walks on. And meanwhile the world is falling to hell while people are just being silent about it, and others being silenced. Authorities telling us not to protest, argue nor be disagreeable, and of course, not to get involved. Are we supposed to be complacent or just indifferent if someone in the world that we care about doesn't care, doesn't realize any importance, or doesn't want us to care?
This is the case of my extensive experience canvassing the communities to support environmental and political matters, the many people who pass by saying "sorry, no time," "not interested," or "no thanks" to making a supportive effort that collectively will make a world of difference; and yet they are all content or busy in their own private life and work that exists within the freedoms of the community, state, country, world that we are striving to protect, sustain, and improve upon. Of course, I realize the many who do take time to be aware and participate, and you who are reading this, are amongst those who are actively supportive and involved in important matters and most appreciated in your moment of interest, active support, and concern. We are all in this world together dealing with the effects of George W. Bush as U.S. President, the war on terrorism making the most giant debt in U.S. history, natural disasters taking out lives and homes everywhere, the polar ice caps melting from global warming, forrests being destroyed, the aids epidemic rampant, the hard working people without homes and/or affordable healthcare, and worse the many people who don't even know or support basic human rights and freedoms, not even free speech, and it's just getting worse with a large part of the population being developed and conditioned to be illiterate and just watch entertainment on tv/film, and there's so much more.
Humans are born as naturally curious, caring and loving beings, then somewhere along the way become conditioned or learn the contrary. We have challenges to overcome, and yet whenever there's any bit of a challenge or new passing fancy or trend, without care so easily some people just drop their efforts and move on to the next easy thing. There are the people I have encountered that say they think they don't matter, and efforts are hopeless, and it's of no use to even vote, and they say only the corporations and famous celebrities have the ability to make a difference because they have money.
And while we are all busy and working towards something of importance in life or not, we each have the ability to make a world of difference and show we care with just a moment, that's all it takes... a moment of attention, a moment of consideration, a moment to listen, a moment to sign a petition, a moment to respond and acknowledge, a moment to share, a moment of love and care, a moment that contains all of the above, just a moment, please... that's all it takes. So I asked, "Excuse me do you have a moment?" Aware he could be like the many others and walk away, but this one didn't, rather he stood with me with a welcoming curiousity and sincere attention, and in just a moment he made a world of infinite difference.

I remember as Johnny Marr expressed to Rock for Learning quoting a Sly & the Family Stone song, "Everybody is a star", and Francis Dunnery singing about it all the time in his song "Everyone's a Star."
And I realized that every individual can make a difference, whoever you are regardless of race, religion, creed, age, sex, or financial status, and inspiring the support of corporations and celebrities can help where efforts are focussed. I am not rich nor famous nor a corporation, yet with passion and hope for a better future, I started Rock for Learning originally on a free Yahoo Geocities website with free community access University Library computers (thanks to CSUN & UNLV) and the .21 cents that fell out of my pocket in the laundry in 2001. And by 2002 gained the involvement of The House of Blues and with just $3 dollars UNLV provided hundreds of copies of the first Rock for Learning newsletter which made its way from the West Coast to the East Coast and back and gained the involvement of Oasis and others in just a moment of sharing .
So the matter is how will we realize and bring to awareness what is important so we can share a moment and do someting about it, and what can we do about it. The Golden Ratio vocalist Talia Mayes declares, "Let your heart lead you; nothing else matters." On what's so important that he writes about, Seal said, "Love, what else is there." The Spinto Band's Nick Krill mentions of great importance is "Curiosity." And thus, the matter is clear, we need to relearn our nature to be curious, to care and to love. Ian Brown encourages Rock for Learning, "Learn love for humanity." The Beatles know it as they sang "All You Need Is Love"
...develop and direct efforts with love, create with love, and express ourselves with love, show and share importance for what we love, protect, nurture, and sustain what we love. It's what we need most, and all it takes is just a moment.
