Animal Rescue Initiative
Written by Melanie Silos

Emmylou Harris, founder of Bonaparte's Retreat pet rescue and adoption. ANIMAL RESCUE INITIATIVE: Action To Save the Lives of Sheltered Pets

Helping to raise awareness by sharing news and information is the first step towards taking initiative to help rescue and save lives of sheltered animals and do our part for animal stewardship.

Stewardship of all natural creation, i.e., the environment, people, and animals, is a responsibility of caring, not abusing. It is our obligation as human beings to care for our fellow creatures -- not only people but also companion animals, farm animals, and wild animals -- with mercy and compassion. Grammy Award winning artists, Emmylou Harris and Sarah McLachlan, set great examples for animal rescue and stewardship; Emmylou Harris actively provides shelter and adoption for rescued pets with her organization, www.bonapartesretreat.org, and Sarah McLachlan is active in her support of the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to protect animal welfare. To follow by thier good example, please join us with the action to learn about animal stewardship, rescue the lives of sheltered pets, and actively support animal welfare organizations.

Please dont let innocent pets get killed in shelters, Join us to save a life and SIGN UP today.

"The recession with the loss of homes and jobs has resulted in many families having to leave their pets behind. Add budget cuts to city & county departments, and animal shelters all over the country are in severe crisis. Euthanasia has become the tool of choice to control homeless animal population by our local government animal control departments and even some animal advocacy groups." - http://la4animals.wordpress.com/

  • According to ASPCA "Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Regarding the severity of the homeless pet population, it is impossible to determine how many stray dogs and cats live in the United States; estimates for cats alone range up to 70 million." http://www.aspca.org/about-us/faq/pet-statistics.aspx
  • Humane Society (HSUS) reports 3-4 million per year
  • American Humane Assoc. reports 3.7 per year

Central Valley, CA has one of the highest kill rates of sheltered pets, and they need your help.
Animal Compassion Team and Pinky Paws Rescue invite your support to foster or adopt pets.
Please join Central Valley CA's best rock band, 51 ACES and lead singer songwriter Allen Woodward (aka Helsik) with Pinky Paws Rescue and the Animal Compassion Team and give your active support to save some lives of pets.

  • According to Consumer Freedom, focusing too much on media and advertising for fundraising promotion rather than investing more funds and efforts into finding suitable homes for sheltered cats has sadly resulted in allowing the killing of a staggering 95.9 percent of the adoptable pets in taken into certain shelters in 2011. [Although the organization claimed that they only kill animals who are injured or sick, in 2005 police caught its employees dumping recently killed animals that were healthy and adoptable just hours before.] http://www.consumerfreedom.com/2012/07/killer-new-stats-on-peta-highlighted-with-sunset-strip-and-times-square-billboards/ http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

  • According to Bett Sundermeyer, President of No Kill Houston, Mandatory Spay/Neuter Laws (MSNL) have exacerbated shelter kill rates. When MSNL were proposed in Los Angeles, and these laws were passed in February 2008, the statistics show that, immediately after passing MSNL, kill rates began to rise in L.A. Before the passing of MSNL, the kill rate had been steadily declining because of city funded programs providing affordable spay/neuter services and incentives to sterilize pets. But after MSNL were passed, for the first time in a decade, impounds and killing increased; dog deaths increased 24 percent and cat deaths increased 35 percent. Los Angeles County now kills 22 times as many animals as Lake County, CA; and kills 104 times as many animals as Calgary, Canada per capita; both of which do not have MSNL. www.nokillhouston.org http://www.theamericandogmag.com/politics/effects-of-mandatory-spay-neuter-laws
